Winning the War is an Untried Option

[Gary Cooperberg, A Voice from Hebron]
"Once the Arab terrorist knows that his terror will be returned upon his own head, tenfold, the terror will come to an end, either voluntarily or otherwise."

Now that Hamas has been chosen to lead the Arab enemy in Israel, via the democratic process so dear to us, and now that we have "disengaged" from Gaza, we can clearly see the benefits of our sacrifices for peace. We have an emboldened enemy which is not afraid to openly declare its intention to destroy the Jewish State, and which is not afraid to fires missiles at our towns and to kidnap and murder Jews, both civilian and soldier.

Our hapless leadership is wringing its collective hands trying to find a way to stop the terror without upsetting "world" opinion. Clearly this is an impossible effort. There is no nice and diplomatic way to deal with terror and war. The only way to end a war is to decisively win it. And Israel has a national policy to refrain from decisively winning any war. We win and then we pay reparations for daring to survive. How is it that via rocks, bullets and bombs, the Arabs of Israel have gotten Israeli recognition of their "right" to build a new enemy state upon Jewish soil? Had our leaders an ounce of common sense, not to mention intelligence and self respect, the first rock would have been the last, and there never would have been bullets and bombs. Instead we accepted the rocks and bullets and bombs, and now even their demand to begin to dismantle our own country is being accepted willingly! With leaders like this, who needs enemies?

The terrorists themselves have given us the key to resolving the problem of the kidnaped soldier. Were Israel a truly self respecting country it could solve this problem simply by taking an example from the terrorists. If the soldier is not returned, unharmed, by 5:30 am on Tuesday, all the prisoners which they wanted us to set free will be set free, after they are all executed. Starting at 5:30 until the soldier is returned, a prisoner will be executed every half hour.

The fact is that we have far more to bargain with than do our enemies. We have never given them to taste from the bitter cup they offer us. It is high time to do so. This kind of policy can also stop Kassams and further kidnaping attempts. For example, the next time a Kassam is launched, the entire town from which it was launched will be wiped out. And the next time a civilian is murdered by terrorists, those terrorists and their families will be fair game for targeted execution, with no consideration given to collateral damage.

Once the Arab terrorist knows that his terror will be returned upon his own head, tenfold, the terror will come to an end, either voluntarily or otherwise.

There are those who will protest that such actions are unbecoming of a sovereign nation and will bring harsh criticism from the nations of the world. The fact of the matter is that our present policies are unbecoming of a sovereign nation and are already bringing us criticism from the nations of the world. The only measurable difference will be that we will put an end to terror and win the respect, if not the love, of friend and foe alike.
